"On Tuesday we had an amazing 17 pupils racing in the Basingstoke District Schools Cross Country team. They qualified to run following the Basingstoke Schools qualifier last month. The competition was held at a very wet and muddy Down Grange - definitely the muddiest course of the season!
We had 4 pupils in the Year 5 and 6 race with Dylan E (Y6) finishing in a fantastic 9th place qualifying him to run at the Southern Counties Championships held at Lord Wandsworth later this month. There were well over 100 runners in this event with Luke W (Y5) 23rd, Douglas M (Y6) 43rd and Uri S (Y6)70th - the rest of the Sherfield runners.
We had 3 Year 7 pupils competing. Evie B came 23rd, Caiden G was 4th - narrowly missing out on a bronze medal on tired legs from the weekend's cross country race and Lachlan H was 17th. Caiden has qualified to run at the Southern Counties Championships later this month too.
We had a very impressive 9 pupils in the Year 8 races with Caspar M finishing in 34th in the boys race and Darcy E 42nd in the girls race. Also racing were Jasmine P, Jasmine H, Lily M, Izzy O'C, Scott H, Jaz S and Sebastian B.
We are so proud of all of them for giving the races their best efforts and for making the Basingstoke District Schools team. The course really was very tough going and even in spikes it was rough to stay on their feet at places. Thanks very much to our lovely gap year student Connor and Mr Marshall for helping out on the day to make sure the pupils could have the chance to come to the competition. "
