Sherfield School has celebrated another year of A Level success. An impressive 51% of A Level grades were A* to B. Our mathematics results were outstanding, with 80% of grades A* to B, topped by the Further Mathematics where 90% of results were graded at this level. In Art we had 100% A*/A grades.
Our Head Boy, Thomas Jenkins, has fulfilled his Oxbridge ambition of reading Biological Sciences at Pembroke College Oxford. He leaves Sherfield with A* grades in Biology and Chemistry and an A in Mathematics. Having set up our inaugural international evening last year, performed in many school productions and participated in a global debating team in Dubai, Thomas has been a leading light in both science and arts since joining the school seven years ago. Harrison Rhodes is our longest serving Sixth Former, having joined Sherfield 11 years ago; he has flown the flag for our gliding partnership and the aviation expertise he has gained from working closely with Lasham Gliding has launched him on to a prestigious pilot training programme. Shaan Master joined us as a boarder in Year 10 and, following his superlative GCSE scores, he enters the world of Mechanical Engineering at University College London with A*s in Mathematics and Further Mathematics, an A in Physics and an A in AS Chemistry. Jenny Guo was part of the cohort that propelled our first pre-sessional programme and has secured a place to read Animal Science at the University of Nottingham. Owen Richardson has won a sports scholarship to the University of Eastern Michigan to study Sports Medicine. Running 400m in 46.49 seconds, he is currently Under 20 number one in the UK; we are expecting Owen to benefit hugely from the expert coaching he will receive in the US.
Sherfield’s commitment to developing pupils through co-curricular activity is epitomised by the school’s partnership programme. This gives particularly talented pupils – in tennis, gymnastics, equestrian sports, gliding, golf, dance, drama or music – the opportunity to balance their education with high-level training. This is reflected in Sherfield’s competitive results: the school’s tennis team are Hampshire County champions and ranked in the top ten of the national school league tables.
Head Master, Mr Fisher said: “I am delighted with these A Level results, which are testament to the hard work and commitment of our pupils and the support from their teachers. The enrichment provided by our wide range of outdoor pursuits, team-building, sport, music and drama have also added huge value to the experiences of our pupils. None of this would be possible without our dedicated team of teachers and support staff who provide extensive help in the evenings and weekends”.
