Welcome to Sherfield.
Sherfield School is a national leader in independent co-educational day and boarding education in the UK. At Sherfield, pupils excel academically and prepare for outstanding careers. They thrive with our exciting, all-round teaching and supportive family atmosphere.
Sherfield School children go on to study at leading universities such as Bath, Liverpool and Edinburgh. They also achieve top sports and arts results. Many Sherfield School students are nationally-ranked athletes and prizewinning musicians and artists.
We pride ourselves on our forward-thinking approach and each pupil’s transition into a confident, well-rounded young adult. Our tailored approach ensures pupils achieve top academic results and develop the right personal qualities for success.
Sherfield School’s special partnerships with outstanding local sports and performing arts organisations give children the chance to excel at sports and culture.
The school’s recent significant investment in school buildings and facilities means that pupils learn in an inspiring environment. All Sherfield School pupils benefit from being a part of the GEMS family.
Sherfield School’s latest inspection report noted that:
The pupils demonstrate excellent personal development. This is in line with the school’s aims, enabling each pupil to develop morally, socially and culturally, and have a positive self-image and confidence. Pupils are aware of the needs of others, and have a caring and responsible attitude.
Sherfield School’s ethos reflects GEMS’ global outlook. Pupils prepare for a place in the competitive international job market by learning about world citizenship, universal values, leadership and forward planning. Their school environment is rich and challenging. Standards and expectations are high. We support our pupils and promote self-discipline and consideration.
Our teaching methods blend traditional ideas and the best new thinking in education. These ideas are based in research into brain function and development in the learning environment. Sherfield School staff are well qualified and come from a wide range of professional backgrounds. We have teachers from the country’s leading independent schools. They combine professional expertise with a commitment to bringing out the best in each child. Greg Meakin (Head of the Prep School and Enrichment) and his team are experts in Pre-School and Prep School development. They ensure that Sherfield pupils are well prepared for transition into the senior school, achieving high attainment in reading, writing and mathematics.
Olwen Wright (Head of Seniors and Pastoral Care) is an expert in secondary and sixth form education, as is our Deputy Head Terry Peters.
The senior team understands pupils’ needs. The team knows the importance of exam preparation, university entrance in the UK, and employment.
Working with parents
We know that working in partnership with parents is central to success. Parents receive reports and have parental consultations. As parents, you are always welcome to visit our parents’ café in the school at any time. You can also join Friends of Sherfield - a vibrant, welcoming group of parents and friends. Social events include quizzes, picnics, and sponsored walks. Half of the money raised by FOS goes to local charities.
We are extremely proud of our school and of every single child. Visit us to experience Sherfield.
