Welcome to Sherfield
Sherfield is one of the UK’s best independent co-educational day and boarding schools.
It is a privilege to lead this outstanding place of learning. We are splendidly set in 75 acres of exquisite park and woodland surrounding a listed heritage building. Lessons take place in state-of-the-art classroom facilities, playing fields and our own forest schools. Sherfield’s lake and gardens provide wonderful opportunities for outdoor pursuits, al fresco theatre and music.
We educate children from Nursery through to the Sixth Form on one site, enabling staff to know and value every child. Talents are discovered, nurtured and celebrated - every individual can shine. Our diverse mix of pupils from the UK and overseas helps deepen cultural understanding, respect and tolerance.
Sherfield pupils enjoy a world-class learning experience from their earliest years. Sherfield’s 2016 A-level results were exceptional, with 51% of grades at the top A*/A standard and 82% A* to B. We provide intensive Oxbridge preparation and our pupils go on to study at the best universities and creative and performing arts schools.
Our tailored approach ensures pupils achieve academic success and become well-rounded resilient young adults – with grit, not just grades. The 2017 Independent Schools Inspectorate report rated Sherfield pupils’ personal development as Excellent, the highest ISI accolade. Our Nursery has just been awarded the top rating of Outstanding by Ofsted for its third consecutive inspection.
Sherfield School staff come from a range of professional backgrounds: experienced teachers have honed their skills in the UK’s leading independent schools; we also recruit the best young teachers from university and high-performing academies to maintain forward-thinking approaches. We are fortunate to have a professional director as our Head of Drama and blessed with a gifted artist in residence who also curates our Sherfield Gallery.
Our teaching blends traditional ideas and the best new thinking in education. Pupils learn to be critical thinkers. We develop flexible learners with the confidence and skills to adapt to rapidly changing technology and career landscapes. Our community connections with local businesses, apprenticeship-providers, industries and universities enhance our careers education.
Many Sherfield pupils are nationally-ranked athletes and prizewinning musicians and artists. Sherfield offers special partnerships with outstanding sports and performing arts organisations, giving talented pupils the opportunity to excel in a wide range of sports, activities and culture.
We also have an extensive after-school activity programme for all pupils at no extra cost. Our breakfast club from 7.30am helps accommodate busy working parents.
We work in close partnership with parents. They receive weekly feedback from pastoral tutors, regular academic progress reports and parent consultations.
Parents are welcome every morning at Sherfield’s café, meeting me there once a week for informal conversations.
Parents also join Friends of Sherfield (FOS) – a registered charity and a welcoming group of parents and community friends. Social events include quizzes, picnics and sponsored walks.
All Sherfield pupils benefit from being part of the GEMS international family of schools. The global perspective helps pupils grow into innovative leaders and ethical global citizens, preparing them for careers across the world.
We are an inclusive community, celebrating diversity with a wide range of abilities, talents and nationalities. What unites us is a commitment to the wellbeing and happiness of every child.
We are extremely proud of our school. You and your children are always welcome to visit us.
