Dance

Sherfield School offers a programme in partnership with The Lisa Jane School of Dance.

The programme is for dedicated and aspiring young dancers. Students enjoy small group academic tuition in GCSE and A Level by teachers who are leading professionals.

Dance provision

Included in the Sherfield School fee:

  • A one-hour dance class each week, integrated into the school day.
  • Two dance classes a week in the dancer’s preferred discipline of ballet, modern or contemporary dance outside school hours with The Lisa Jane School of Dance.
  • Free entry into RAD/ISTD examinations.

Applicants must be registered for Sherfield School. Places are subject to academic testing and assessment under the direction of The Lisa Jane School of Dance principal.

Assessments are held through the year.

Equestrian

Sherfield equestrian pupils learn dressage, show jumping and eventing. Entry ages are 9, 11, 13 and 16. Our programme offers academic study and training for aspiring horse riders.

Students enjoy small group tuition from Prep through to GCSE and A Level. EAL support is available.

Application process

Pupils must be registered for Sherfield School.

Applicants for equestrian scholarship should be competing at unaffiliated level in Pony Club or other equestrian centre run competitions (for the Academy programme) and at affiliated level (for the Elite Partnership programme).

Pupils must take a riding assessment with an approved coach. Scholarship pupils compete for the school equestrian team at National Schools Equestrian Association competitions.

New pupils for scholarship places are assessed academically and at Burley Lodge Equestrian Centre or with an approved coach. Assessments take place during the year.

Flying

Sherfield offers students the chance to combine their academic studies with a course in aviation in partnership with the Lasham Gliding Society programme.

Entry age is 14 to 18.

This programme is for pupils who have some flying experience and who are interested in an aviation career. Programme pupils enjoy small group tuition in GCSEs and A Levels.

Gliding provision

  • Included in the Sherfield Senior School fee:
  • Full Under 21 membership with Lasham Gliding Society
  • A minimum of three flying lessons per week (subject to weather)
  • Unlimited use of the simulator
  • Log book, hat and appropriate flying handbooks
  • Theoretical instruction towards internationally recognised qualifications when weather prevents flying

Applicants must:

  • Register for Sherfield and pass the school’s admission test
  • Provide a competition CV
  • Complete an initial flying assessment at Lasham Gliding

Assessments are held regularly through the year.

Golf

Sherfield School’s combined academic and golf programme is designed to help young golfers achieve all-round success.

Students have small group tuition in GCSE and A Level. EAL support is available.

Entry ages are 9, 11, 13 and 16.

  • Included in the Sherfield School fee:
  • Weekly coaching from the Head Coach
  • Specialist coaching with up-to-date technology
  • Specialist training programme with individual goals regularly set
  • Up-to-date handicap and monthly 1-2-1 individual performance reviews
  • 7 day membership with access to club competitions and training facilities
  • Unlimited range balls

Applicants must be registered for Sherfield School. Places are subject to academic testing and a half-day golf assessment at Sherfield Oaks.

Regular assessments are held through the year.

Gymnastics

Sherfield School’s combined academic and gymnastics programme is designed to help aspiring gymnasts achieve their best academic and sports results.

Students have small group tuition in GCSE and A Level. EAL support is available.

Entry ages are 9, 11, 13 and 16.

Included in the Sherfield Senior School fee:

  • Weekly training with senior and high performance gymnastics coach
  • British Gymnastics membership
  • Unlimited annual membership to Basingstoke Gymnastics at the Active Life Centre
  • Conditioning and flexibility training

Applicants must:

  • Register for Sherfield School and sit the school’s admission test
  • Provide a competition CV
  • Pass an assessment at Basingstoke Gymnastics Club

Assessments are held regularly through the year.

Ice Skating

In partnership with Planet Ice of Basingstoke, Sherfield School offers a combined academic and skating programme for aspiring ice-skaters.

Students have small group academic tuition in GCSE and A Level.

Entry ages are 9, 11, 13 and 16.

Included in the Sherfield Senior School fee:

  • Ice time during the school lunch breaks
  • Up to two hours a week coaching time
  • Coaching by qualified instructors
  • Monthly passes for patch sessions
  • Lunchtime training

Applicants must:

  • Register for Sherfield and pass the school’s admission test
  • Provide a competition CV
  • Complete an assessment at Planet Ice

Performing Arts

Sherfield School’s Performing Arts programme is integrated into the weekly academic timetable to develop young singing, drama and dance talent.

Students have small group academic tuition in GCSE and A Level.

Entry ages are 9, 11, 13 and 16.

Included in the Sherfield Senior School fee:

  • A place at either a Friday evening or Saturday Stagecoach School with three hours a week of drama, dance and singing classes. Classes are taught in small groups by specialists.
  • Advanced group sessions in one of the three disciplines.
  • Exclusive performance workshops and a rolling programme of training and performance integrated into the school timetable.
  • Regular performance opportunities at Sherfield School. Entry into local festivals.
  • Dedicated technique classes.
  • Private individual LAMDA coaching and exam entry.
  • Entry into Stagecoach Easter and Summer School programmes.
  • The chance to join ‘The Stagecoach Agency’ with representation for professional film, TV and theatre work.
  • Bi-annual written reports on individual progress and potential.

Applicants must be registered for Sherfield School. Places are subject to academic testing and an audition with our Head of Performing Arts.

Tennis

Sherfield offers a combined academic and tennis programme for aspiring young tennis players.  

Students have small group tuition in GCSE and A Level. EAL support is available. Entry ages are 9, 11, 13 and 16.

Included in the Sherfield Senior School fee:

  • Two hour-long individual lessons per week
  • Two 1.5 hour team practice squads (1-5 ratio).
  • Tournament/competition visits by the coach.

A full Totally Tennis membership package is also included.
